Background
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG) of the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), in collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) through its Local Government (LGA), the Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration (EROPA), and with the support of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in the Philippines, is organizing a Follow-up Leadership Workshop on Strategic Foresight and AI Nexus for Advancing Anticipatory Governance and Policy Innovation in the Philippines, to be held on 14 August 2026 and 18 August 2026, Online.

The workshop builds on the outcomes and recommendations of the previous Leadership Workshop on Strategic Foresight and AI Nexus for Advancing Anticipatory Governance and Policy Innovation in the Philippines, which highlighted the importance of strengthening insightful capacities for anticipatory governance and responsible artificial intelligence (AI) integration within the public sector institutions. It is part of UN DESA's continued support to national and local government institutions in institutionalizing strategic foresight and AI-informed approaches in governance, policymaking, and public administration.

The follow-up workshop is built in response to the growing need to translate foresight and AI concepts into practical governance applications that enhance institutional preparedness, resilience, innovation, and responsiveness amid rapid technological, social, economic, and environmental transformation. It reflects the strong interest expressed by participating institutions to further operationalize the knowledge, tools, and approaches introduced during the previous workshop.

The follow-up workshop will bring together national and local government officials in the Philippines who participated in the previous Leadership Workshop on Strategic Foresight and AI Nexus for Advancing Anticipatory Governance and Policy Innovaiton in the Philippines, as well as relevant representatives from the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), the Local Government Authority (LGA), and other stakeholders involved in advancing anticipatory governance, strategic foresight, and responsible use of AI integration in the public sector. It will encourage whole-of-government collaboration and multi-stakeholder engagement rhough exchange of experiences, good practices, and innovative approaches among government institutions.
