INTRODUCTION
Background

Young people are at the heart of sustainable development and are indispensable partners in advancing the 2030 Agenda. As innovators, changemakers, and leaders, youth possess the creativity, energy, and vision needed to address complex global challenges and accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Meaningful youth engagement in public decision-making not only strengthens democratic governance but also ensures that policies and solutions are inclusive, responsive, and future-oriented.

Recognizing the immense potential of youth and the challenges many continue to face in participating fully in civic life, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) and Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), will convene the 10th Youth Forum on SDG Implementation under the theme “Advancing Youth Engagement in the Public Decision-Making Process through Digital Transformation and Innovative Governance,” and will bring together young leaders, practitioners, policymakers, and development partners to exchange knowledge, showcase innovative youth-led initiatives, and explore how digital transformation and participatory governance can empower young people to shape more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable futures.

Objectives

The 10th Youth Forum on SDG Implementation: Advancing Youth Engagement in the Public Decision-Making Process through Digital Transformation and Innovative Governance will aim to:
  • Promote meaningful youth engagement in public governance and sustainable development by strengthening the role of young people as active partners in policy design, agenda-setting, decision-making and implementation processes related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • Examine how digital transformation and emerging technologies, including AI, can support more inclusive, participatory, and responsive governance while enabling youth-led approaches to address development challenges and reduce inequalities.
  • Strengthen capacities of young people by equipping them with knowledge, digital competencies, and collaborative platforms to design, develop, and scale innovative and practical solutions to advance the SDGs and the UN Quintet of Change.
  • Foster dialogue and collaboration among youth, policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to advance inclusive and collaborative approaches to governance, strengthen civic participation, and support enabling environments for meaningful youth engagement.
  • Provide a platform to showcase and exchange innovative initiatives led by young people, with a view to promoting scalable, impactful, and context-responsive solutions across regions.
