Third Regional Seminar for the Asia-Pacific Region Parliaments in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (13-14 September, Islamabad) December 27, 2022
The Head of DPIDG/UNPOG was invited to speak at the session on Envisioning Inclusive Development: Socio-economic challenges in the Asia Pacific during the Third Regional Seminar for the Asia-Pacific Region Parliaments on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The seminar was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the National Assembly of Pakistan focused on the theme of Parliaments and the Pandemic: SDGs in the time of COVID-19.

The Seminar provided a space for inter-parliamentary dialogue and sharing of best practices on how to support the achievement of the SDGs in the region despite the COVID-19 pandemic and other crises, including climate change. It took stock of what has been done so far in the Region and reflected on possible ways in which parliamentarians could contribute with solutions to the current challenges and boost inclusive and sustainable development for all.  The Seminar also provided a good opportunity to promote the Curriculum on Governance and the Principles of Effective Governance and how they can support the work of the public sector for the implementation of the SDGs.

The Seminar was attended by parliamentarians and parliamentary staff from China, Indonesia, Iran, Republic of Korea, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, Viet Nam and Canada. At the end of the seminar, participating parliamentarians adopted an outcome document available on the IPU website.
