The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG) of the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), in collaboration with the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka, and with the support of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sri Lanka, is organizing a National Workshop on Data Governance and Artificial Intelligence for Public Sector Transformation in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 20 to 22 July 2026.

The workshop comes as a response to the express need for capacity development in the context of Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to accelerate digital and AI transformation in public administration, strengthen digital governance, and build institutional readiness for the responsible and effective use of digital technologies across the public sector.

The workshop will bring together government officials, technical staff, development partners, UN representatives, and practitioners to reflect on Sri Lanka’s broader digital government transformation agenda, including the digitalization of procedures and citizen-centric service delivery, capacity building, and institutional reforms.
