Integrating Public Governance and Finance for Climate and Disaster Resilience July 01, 2025

20 June 2025 - The United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG)/DPIDG, in collaboration with UNITAR CIFAL Jeju/Jeju International Training Center (JITC) and UNDRR Office for North East Asia (ONEA) and Global Education Training Institute (GETI), successfully organised the 'Online Workshop on Effective Public Governance and Finance for Disaster Risk Reduction, Local Resilience and Climate Action', on 17-19 June 2025.

The workshop introduced key concepts, frameworks, approaches, and tools developed by the United Nations and its partners to support governments and strengthen institutional capacity to respond to ongoing climate challenges. It piloted the Climate Readiness Assessment Tool (Note: page 57 onwards), which supports governments in evaluating institutional capacities, policy coherence, and inter-agency coordination for integration climate action, and introduced the Disaster Tracking System (DTS) for hazardous events and losses and damages to help countries monitor their progress in reducing disaster losses and damages and inform policy and investment decisions. In addition, the Climate Resilience Addendum to the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities, under MCR2030, also provided participants to self-assess the integration of disaster and climate resilience strategies at the sub-national government level.

Furthermore, the workshop explored the recent progress made in establishing global mechanisms and capacity building and finance support instruments to help Member States avert, minimise, and address loss and damage caused by climate change. It explored the Santiago Network which aims to catalyse technical assistance from various organisations, bodies, networks, and experts (OBNEs) along with the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage whose mandate is to provide financial assistance to nations that is most vulnerable and impacted by the climate change.

The workshop provided an interactive platform among participants and was attended by over 1,200 participants all over the world from Asia, the Pacific, Africa and beyond.
