Training of Trainers Workshop Advances Local Governance for SDG Implementation in Nepal

May 19, 2025 – The United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG) of the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) in collaboration with Nepal Administrative Staff College (NASC), with the support from the UN Resident Coordinator Office and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has successfully concluded a two and a half-day Training of Trainers (TOT) Workshop on Effective National to Local Governance for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Implementation in Kathmandu, Nepal on 13 - 15 May 2025.
The Workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of trainers and local government institutions to accelerate progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and align with the Nepal Vision 2100. The Training was based on UN DESA's Curriculum on Governance for the SDGs, and focused on promoting integrated and inclusive governance mechanisms that are essential for achieving the SDGs across all levels of the government.
The Workshop was attended by 31 trainers from key national and subnational training institutions including representatives from NASC, the Province Research and Training Center, Provincial Training Academy (PTA), Provincial Center for Good Governance (PCGG), Local Development Training Academy (LDTA), Public Finance Management Training Center (PFMTC), and the National Planning Commission (NPC). Over the course of the workshop, participants engaged in in-depth discussions, scenario exercises, and peer learning sessions. The participants also collaboratively developed an action plan outlining effective governance strategies and mechanisms to localize and implement the SDGs across Nepal’s provinces and municipalities.
The workshop concluded with a strong commitment by NASC and its partner institutions to sustain momentum and foster transformative governance that leaves no one behind.
