13 March 2024 – DPIDG through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG) and the CEPA Secretariat facilitated the Virtual Workshop on Subsidiarity and Decentralisation for Sustainable Development targeting African countries on 12 March 2023.
The workshop was organised as a follow-up launch of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) Guidance Notes on the Principles of Subsidiarity in the Asia-Pacific region, and provided the participants platform to i) share knowledge and guidance on how to promote inclusiveness and subsidiarity for sustainable development, ii) increase understanding and awareness of the competencies and skills needed to apply the principle of subsidiarity, iii) highlight peer learning opportunities and research networks in specific practice areas, and iv) identify capacity development opportunities to enhance decentralisation and relations with subnational governments.
The speakers at the workshop also delivered relevant information, including national perspectives from the African region and strategies to operationalise the principle of subsidiarity. The workshop received interactive engagement from the audience and was attended by 453 participants online from all over the world.
