UN DESA’s Support to the Government of Papua New Guinea in Organizing the 2023 Digital Government Delivery Workshop (22-24 November 2023, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea)

At the request of the Department of ICT (DICT) of the Government of Papua New Guinea, DPIDG and its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), in partnership with the ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, are supporting the DICT in organizing the National Capacity Building Workshop on Digital Government - Transforming PNG: Digital Horizons and Public Service Excellence, held on 22-24 November 2023 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. There were more than 260 participants on site and around 30 participants online including national and local government officials and partnering agencies. The workshop comprises thirteen sessions covering a wide range of digital government related themes e.g., digital government strategy, digital data governance, government technology stack, digital ID, digital capacities and changing mindsets, and developing a roadmap and action planning. The workshop aimed to equip public sector leaders and digital transformation officers (DTOs) with the knowledge, skills, and strategic insights required to advance the digital transformation agenda in Papua New Guinea. By aligning with the Medium-Term Development Plan IV 2023-2027 (MTDP 4) and the Digital Government Act 2022, the workshop is expected to enhance the capabilities of public bodies in delivering digital services and pave the way for a successful and integrated digital future for Papua New Guinea.
This workshop will become an annual government-wide event in Papua New Guinea, and it will be also held in 2024.
