UNPOG/DPIDG organized a Workshop for young politicians on Tackling Governance Issues in Local Municipalities – From Public Service Provision to Disaster Risk Management at the Konrad Adenauer School for Young Politicians (KASYP) from 9 to 10 June 2022. KASYP is a capacity-development programme comprising four thematic modules with an objective to strengthen and professionalize political parties. This programme is designed to equip young political leaders with theoretical and conceptual knowledge of political theories and practical skills for political actions and responsibilities and lead in the advancement of responsiveness and accountability of political parties in Asia. The Workshop aimed to enhance the capacities of young politicians in disaster risk reduction and understand risk-informed governance as a foundation for sustainable development. The Workshop was attended by 24 young politicians from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, The Philippines, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The Workshop provided a good opportunity to discuss the Principles for Effective Governance for Sustainable Development and stress the importance of trust in government, a people-centred approach and building partnerships.
