At the invitation of UNDRR, DPIDG/UNPOG participated in the International Disaster Resilience Leadership Forum (IDRLF). The Forum emphasized that resilience-building is a shared responsibility, requiring stronger cooperation across countries, between local and national governments, regional networks, and civil society, while bridging science, policy, and practice to address systemic risks and compound hazards.
Discussions focused on advancing international collaboration and reinforcing global and local partnerships to accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Forum responded directly to the Midterm Review (MTR) of the Sendai Framework, adopted in 2023, which recognized progress in global DRR efforts but also highlighted persistent gaps. The MTR underscored shortfalls in international cooperation with developing countries, particularly in mobilizing timely and predictable financing, and called for strengthened financial mechanisms, technical support, and capacity-building to meet commitments under Target F. It also resonated with the key messages of UN DESA’s recently concluded Regional Symposium on Effective Governance and AI Transformation, emphasizing the importance of strengthening science, technology, and innovation systems, and engaging communities as equal partners in DRR to advance sustainable development.
