UN DESA/DPIDG/UNPOG contributed to the workshop on Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals: Advancing Subsidiarity in Practice, organized by UN DESA/DPIDG in partnership with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development of Sierra Leone, organized a workshop in Freetown on the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals. UNPOG delivered a presentation on Effective National to Local Governance for SDG Implementation. The workshop brought together about 100 national and local government officials from 17 district councils, alongside representatives of civil society. Grounded in the principle of subsidiarity, which calls for decisions to be made as close as possible to the people they affect, participants identified key challenges and gaps in localizing the SDGs and translated these into concrete action plans to advance local implementation. The programme also provided an opportunity to promote the knowledge products developed by UNPOG.
