UNPOG, in partnership with consultants from the Asia pacific Women’s Information Network Centre of Sookmyung Women’s University of Korea initiated a study in September 2011 named “From promoting Gender Equality to empowering women: role of e-Government in the Asia Pacific” which covered six countries. The research project analysed overall e-government development trends in Asia-Pacific countries by looking at previous UN e-Government Surveys and other publications, with particular attention to sections on gender. By reviewing and analyzing the cases of the target countries of different development status, UNPOG developed a toolkit/knowledge guide that will help governments assess the status of the role and impact of ICT application and e-Government gender main-streaming

 

As follow-up, an Expert Group Meeting on Gender Mainstreaming was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea on 12 February 2012 with attendance by scholars and practitioners from universities, government and UN agencies to discuss about the findings from the research and exchange ideas on how to move to next level.
