UNPOG and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) jointly organised a Training Session on E-Government for KAIST Global IT Technology Program (ITTP) fellows from 4:00 to 6:30 pm on 16 December 2014 in KAIST Munji Campus, Daejeon, Republic of Korea. The objective of this Session is to extend UNPOG’s outreach activities and promote UNPOG as well as the UN E-Government Survey, E-Government Development Database and METER 3.0.
The Session was attended by 20 ITTP fellows (15 fellows from 10 African countries, 2 from 2 Latin American countries, and 3 from 2 Asian countries), and most of them are government officials from ICT agencies of each developing country engaged in e-government programmes of their countries. A week before the Session, UNPOG provided ITTP fellows with the 2014 EGDI and EGDI sub-components of the respective countries for their better understanding of individual country’s e-government development status.
During the Session, Mr. Jae-hong Lim, Head of UNPOG briefly introduced the mission and project activities of UNPOG, and provided an overview of 2014 UN E-Government Survey with its key findings, and the global and regional trends and emerging issues of e-government development. Mr. Keping Yao, Governance and Public Administration Expert, presented the production of UN E-Government Development Index (EGDI) and demonstrated the E-Government Development Database. He also briefly explained the METER 3.0, and encouraged the ITTP fellows to assess e-government readiness of their country utilising the METER 3.0 as a useful tool.
The Joint Training Session was well received by ITTP fellows and the programme coordinator, and it attracted great interests among ITTP Fellows about the programme activities of UNPOG and the global trends of e-government development as portrayed by UN E-Government Survey. This event also heralded a potential long term partnership between UNPOG and KAIST ITTP in organising similar training sessions or workshops in e-government in the future.
