Mr. Chae Gun Chung, head of UNPOG and Mr. Keping Yao, Governance and Public Administration Expert, participated in the 18th Session of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration on the theme of “Building Strong Institutions for Equal and Inclusive Societies” from 8 to 12 April 2019 in UN Headquarters, New York. Among other things, the CEPA meeting discussed i) enhancing the capacity of the public sector in core functional areas of administration; ii) governance and public administration aspects of empowering people to build equal and inclusive societies; iii) relating principles of effective governance for sustainable development to practices and results and iv) stocktaking of progress on institutional aspects of Sustainable Development Goal 16. UNPOG took this opportunity to keep abreast of emerging issues in governance and public administration that are central to ongoing efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Mr. Chung participated in the SIDS Special Event on “Building Capacities of Public Institutions in Small Island Developing States to implement the SAMOA Pathway and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” organized by the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations and the Permanent Mission of Belize to the United Nations, in collaboration with DPIDG and the SDIS unit, on 12 April. Mr. Chung and Ms. Alberti presented on "Integrated support to SIDS on strengthening governance and institutional capacities to realize the 2030 Agenda and the Samoa Pathway." The participants shared their knowledge and experience on the design and implementation of initiatives supporting SIDS.
