Building Partnerships of SDGs Localization among Local Governments: The Case of Republic of Korea March 06, 2019
Unlike the framework of the MDGs, the framework of the SDGs highlights the role of local actors including the participation of all related stakeholders such as local governments as well as the central government and the process called “Localizing the SDGs.”
Although local governments in South Korea are one of the actors engaging in international development cooperation, they have faced difficulty in increasing the scale or carrying out the projects more efficiently and systematically due to restrictions on financial resources, human resources, and legal systems.

In this background, UNPOG, MOIS(Ministry of Interior and Safety) and KDI(Korea Development Institute) undertook a joint project in 2018 to research on building partnerships of SDGs localization among local governments focusing on the case of Republic of Korea.

This report is to ascertain the importance of the localization of the SDGs and to deal with specific policy proposals for the system of cooperation among local governments, the central government and international organizations in South Korea to implement development cooperation projects on local governments of developing countries under the SDGs framework.
For further details, please refer to the attached electronic copy and abstract of the final report.
