On 24 January, the Head of UNPOG participated and delivered an opening statement on “Whole-of-Government Approach and Effective Institutions for SDGs Localization”, organized by UNOSD/DSDG in collaboration with UNCRD/DSDG. The statement elaborated on the a) the global frameworks on SDG localization; b) SDG localization strategy; and c) effective governance, institutions, and whole-of-government approach for SDG localization. UNPOG’s participation in the conference provided a good opportunity to highlight the importance of effective governance, the whole-of-government approach, and effective institutions to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the local level. The participation in the programme also provided a good opportunity to promote the UN DESA/DPIDG’s Curriculum on Governance for the SDGs. The Forum was attended by mayors, sub-national government officials and representatives, national institutions, academia, youth, and other stakeholders concerned with SDG implementation at the national and local level in developed and developing countries.
