"Leveraging Public Governance and Spearheading Innovative Solutions to Address the COVID-19 Pandemic – Responses in Africa"

UNPOG and CDPMU of DPIDG, in collaboration with UNECA, Development Coordination Office for Africa, African Union Development Agency (AUPD-NEPAD) and African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM), successfully organized the Webinar on "Leveraging Public Governance and Spearheading Innovative Solutions to Address the COVID-19 Pandemic – Responses in Africa" held on 12 May 2020. ASG Elliott Harris opened the Webinar which was attended by high-level dignitaries including Cabinet Secretary of Ministry of Public Service and Gender of Kenya, the Minister for Technological Innovation and Digitization of Italy, and the Secretary-General of AAPAM. The Webinar was well-attended by over 400 participants from 82 countries via WebEx and over 3,300 views on Facebook. The capacity development event featured a total of 15 speakers which provided a good opportunity for the audience to listen to and interact with government officials and experts from countries such as Kenya, South Africa, Italy, China, Republic of Korea and representatives from academia, private sector and CSOs. The discussions focused on national experiences in strengthening public governance and leveraging digital technologies in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The Webinar provided pragmatic recommendations on how to prioritize policy actions and choose different solutions tailored to country-contextual situations.
