Under the theme of “Building Better Governance: Bringing Better Future for All”, UNPOG/DPIDG was invited to participate in two activities hosted by the Korean Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) at the occasion of 2019 ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit held in Busan, Republic of Korea. First, UNPOG/DPIDG organized two booths at the Exhibition on Public Service Innovation from 25 to 27 November 2019. Over 100 participants, including Ministers visited the exhibition booths to learn of UNPOG/DPIDG/UN DESA’s capacity development, research and outreach efforts. UNPOG staff promoted UN DESA’s flagship activities such as the UNPSA, Regional Symposium and the E-Government survey, as well as the priority research areas in strengthening public institutions, innovating public services and engaging whole societies. UNPOG/DPIDG also took part in the Ministerial Roundtable on Public Service Innovation held on 26 November 2019. Moderated by H.E. Mr. Chin Young, Minister of MOIS and other Ministers, the full day programme consisted of 19 presentations sharing ROK and ASEAN countries’ knowledge and good practices in i) citizen engagement and government innovation; ii) digital technologies and public services and iii) capacity-building of local government and regional development.
The occasion provided a valuable opportunity to network with ROK and ASEAN government officials (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) for future collaboration.
