CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT

High-Level Political Forum 2018 July 09, 2018
The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development was held from July 9 to 18, 2018 in the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The forum took place under the theme of transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies. Especially 6 goals of the Sustainable Development Goals were discussed during the forum; Goal 6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, Goal 7. Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, Goal 11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable, Goal 12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, Goal 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss, and Goal 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development. 

Colleagues of the UNPOG attended the forum and other meetings of UNDESA. Director Jae-gun CHUNG and Mr. Keiping Yao, Governance and Public Administration Expert joined the Capacity Development workshop of the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), UNDESA for two days on July 19 and 20. In the meeting, colleagues from different parts of DPIDG gathered together and discussed on how to expend impact from the capacity development activities of DPIDG, how to communicate with the member countries and citizens, and how to work together as one DESA. 

Director CHUNG and Mr. Yao also meet Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the UN and delegates of Voluntary National Review (VRN) and discussed the upcoming Practitional to Practitional Forum in Sri Lanka from August 20 to 24. A meeting with the delegations of the Republic of Korea to the UN was followed as well.
