He made a presentation on UNPOG’s recent research “E-Government for Promoting Sustainable Development in Small Island Developing States” during the first session of the Workshop 1 titled “Trends and Emerging Issues of Smart Government”, organized by e-Government Branch (eGB/DPADM/UNDESA). In his presentation, Mr. Lim highlighted the positive impact of e-government development on good governance and sustainable development, based on the results of empirical analysis. He touched upon the fact that among seven key success factors of e-government development, bigger gaps between high and low performers in good governance and sustainable development lie in the existence of national e-government strategy, legal framework, and financial feasibility. Among recommendations made in his presentation included pursuing e-government development in line with national development priorities, deploying ICT/e-government infrastructures first and developing an integrated and comprehensive e-government development strategy, as well as strengthening international partnership and cooperation. He wrapped up his presentation by noting the readiness of UNPOG to contribute in assisting SIDS to enhance their e-government capacity for promoting sustainable development by providing customized technical assistance and training programmes.

Mr. Lim also attended the bilateral meeting between United Nations Under-Secretary-General (USG) for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Wu Hong-bo and First Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Security and Public Administration (MOSPA) of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Park Kyung-kook. Both of them highly appreciated UNPOG’s recent activities in the area of e-government and innovation in Asia and the Pacific, and expected its further commitments and continued success.
