Mr. Chae Gun Chung is the Head of Office of United Nations Project Office on Governance, a part of the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government, Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA).

Since his appointment in 2017, he has contributed to strengthening developing Member States' capacities on public governance to advance SDG 16. Prior to joining the Unites Nations, Mr. Chung was the Vice Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Korea. Mr. Chung also held various positions including the Deputy Minister of Local Administration Office and Deputy Minister of Planning and Coordination Office as well as Consul General of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Germany.
In his long and distinguished career from 1983 to 2016 with the Government of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Chung has accumulated rich experience by working for the central government, cities and local governments, and the Office of the President. Mr. Chung holds a PhD in Public Administration from Daejeon University, Master of Urban Planning from University of Michigan, Master of Public Administration from Seoul National University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from Korea University.
