Participation in the 3rd Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on Smart Cities and e-Gover

The Head of UNPOG, Mr. Chae Gun Chung, participated in the 3rd Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on Smart Cities and e-Government, which was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 21-22 September 2017. The Forum was co-organized by International Telecomminication Union (ITU), Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) of Thailand, and the World Smart Sustainable City Organization (WeGO), and was held in conjunction with the Digital Thailand Big Bang 2017, organized by the MDES of Thailand on 21-24 September, 2017.

On the first day of the Forum, Mr. Chung delivered a presentation on digital governments at the High-level Discussion on Digital Governments. During this High-level Discussion, Mr. Chung addressed the global trends in digital governments, the role of digital governments on building accountable, transparent, inclusive and effective public institutions, and the challenges related to the digital governments.


Also, on the second day of the Forum, Mr. Chung delivered a presentation at the Session 3  -Smart Sustainable Cities- with the topic on “Participatory Governance for Good Smart City: Focusing on Implications from Gentrification for Achieving the SDGs”. In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of participatory governance in building good smart cities, by sharing the policy implications drawn from experiences of urban regeneration and gentrification. He particularly stressed that participation and engagement of vulnerable groups that are highly likely to be marginalized is crucial for building sustainable smart cities as well as achieving the SDGs.
